In April 1981, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah issued Emiri Decree No.18establishing ‘the Economic Department’ and thus founded the first local economic department in the history of the United Arab Emirates, to take over the local authority for the application of federal laws related to economic affairs, as well as the application of local decrees and orders related to the economy of the Emirate.
